The conundrum is that Red has already figured the new stadium into the asking price for the team but is certain to raise the asking if someone else agrees to fund a new stadium. That makes current negotiations to sell virtually impossible.

There are only two possible suitors being mentioned right now. One is Reggie Fowler, a Phoenix-area businessman. He appears wealthy, but probably not wealthy enough to go it alone. The other is Timberwolves owner Glen Taylor. He is wealthy enough to go it alone, but his 2004-2005 investment in the Wolves, and the Wolves' recent lackluster play, may have him reconsidering how heavily invested he cares to be in professional sports. If Red lowers his asking price, Taylor will probably jump in. If not, Taylor will need some assurances, to which only he will be privy, that a new stadium is in the works. That seems unlikely given the current mood in the state legislature.

As for Moss, see today's column later this afternoon.

VGvikes geekhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06530336385552424416noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8268346.post-1106260764787969462005-01-20T16:39:00.000-06:002005-01-20T16:39:00.000-06:00VG, since I'm not in the fever swamp of the Twin C...VG, since I'm not in the fever swamp of the Twin Cities media market, I'm not up on all of the latest Vikings rumors. Here's hoping you can focus your oracular insight on a couple of such rumors:

Do you think that McCombs is set to unload the team this offseason, as some have claimed? A few commentators are arguing that McCombs' non-resistance to Linehan's departure and postponement of his annual meeting with Tice are indicators that a sale is more likely.

And what do you make of the perennial Moss-trade rumors? (Does anyone want him to go more than the national sports media? Peter King of CNN/SI must be phoning front offices around the league.)Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
