I expect the Norseman to seek some form of compensation.

I'm not only not a Holcomb fan, I see no point to the signing, particularly when it required ceding a draft pick. Holcumb was going to be cut this week and, despite what he and his agent were telling everyone, nobody else had any reason to have an interest in him. But even free, he's no bargain. His career numbers are anemic and he couldn't beat out A.J. Feeley to backup Donovan McNabb. What more is there to discover about this guy? Another Childress-Eagles' connection. Ahh, takes me back to the Denny Green-Cleveland Browns connection days.

VGvikes geekhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06530336385552424416noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8268346.post-44533705128086843222007-08-27T23:55:00.000-05:002007-08-27T23:55:00.000-05:00Lichty,Good to hear from you. But the Vikings clearly were desperate to take the leap of faith. I still think you cut your losses when you realize that they outweigh your gains.

I've liked Jackson's arm strength and quickness since mini-camp last year. I don't blame him for the Vikings' quarterback situation, but it is going to be a year of slow progress. A more enlightened head coach would have pushed harder for signing a veteran like Trent Green or Jeff Garcia this year and would have allowed Jackson to get the reps where he could for the first two or three seasons. If the Vikings were hopelessly out of it even with a veteran quarterback then throwing Jackson in at this point, given his ability, would not be such a bad thing. But with Winfield, Sharper, Pat Williams, and Matt Birk getting close to the end of their careers in the next two to three years, it seems like a wasted season.

VGvikes geekhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06530336385552424416noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8268346.post-47318731115512202912007-08-27T16:50:00.000-05:002007-08-27T16:50:00.000-05:00VG:Well, it's official. We'll see if he's an upgrade over Bollinger. At least it won't be a hard standard for him to live up to. Disappointed we had to give up a draft pick for him though.

I also started a Vikings blog of my own last week. RRRRRRRRrrrrrrrrrrr (the phoenetic spelling of the horn sound effect that goes off when something good happens to the Vikings like the other team having a false start).

I don't see how you can say Nike sold the team a bill of goods on Williamson. Given the number 7 pick investment it was sure worth a try. Can't blame Nike for fact that Williamson make Mr. Magoo look coordinated. Although Williams does give me fond memories of Jake Reed's fabulous forearm catches.

You would think that in addition to the psychological testing (which failed to catch Michael Vick's sociopathing tendencies), the wonderlik intelligence exams, and the pushup contests and whatever hell else they do at these meat market combines, they would be able to tell that a receiver can't catch the damned ball.

I think Jackson if he had been brought into Culpepper's situation would be much better. Too much is going to fall on his shoulders with the three yard route offense and the horrible offensive line. Would love to see Jackson develop in even a mediocre offense.J.
